In my book, “Interviewing by Example” (available on Amazon.com), I encourage job interviewers to hone their interviewing skills and assess themselves regularly. Job seekers should continually improve their job search and interviewing skills as well. Here are 10 self-evaluation questions for job seekers.

Do you-

  1. Know what job will be right for you? (focus on your ideal job)
  2. Know what your strongest job skills are and how to ’sell’ them in an interview?
  3. Know how to answer the top 10 frequently asked questions?
  4. Arrive on time (or early) to an interview?
  5. Sound and look confident? (ask your friends and family)
  6. Have extra copies of your resume with you at all times? (you never know)
  7. Listen carefully to the interviewer’s questions and answer them succinctly?
  8. Have a list of appropriate questions to ask about the company and the position?
  9. Always follow-up after an interview?
  10. Devote enough time preparing for the interview and seeking new leads?

Finding a new job is hard work. Assess yourself regularly, keep your skills sharp, and seek continuous improvement.
